Historical Aircraft: The Saunders-Roe Princess
The Saunders-Roe Princess was one of the largest flying boats ever built, even surpassing the Martin Mars in size. The Princess was 30 feet longer and had a wingspan nearly 20 feet wider than the Martin Mars, making it considerably larger and heavier. However, it never saw commercial success. Its first and only flight was on August 22, 1952, but by then, land-based jet airliners were taking over the market. The Martin Mars, including the Philippine Mars, was more successful, with the latter scheduled to arrive later this year, despite being smaller than the Princess.
