Weather Fronts
Weather Fronts – Know What’s Coming!
Understanding frontal symbols on weather charts is crucial for flight planning and anticipating changes in weather conditions. Here’s a quick guide:
🔴 Warm Front
Rounded red symbols → Warm air advances over cold air → Expect layered clouds and steady rain.
🔵 Cold Front
Blue triangles → Cold air undercuts warm air → Brings cumulus clouds, heavy rain, and wind shifts.
🟠 Convergence Line
Orange hatching → Air masses meet and rise → Possible turbulence and showers.
🔴🔵 Stationary Front
Alternating red/blue → Neither air mass is moving → Can lead to prolonged cloudy/rainy weather.
🟣 Occluded Front
Purple line with triangles and semicircles → Cold front catches up with a warm front → Complex weather with layered cloud and precipitation.
🛫 Meteorology isn’t just theory—it’s key to safe and smooth flights. Know your symbols, plan better!
