IATA Warns of Rising Airline Costs Despite Strong Global Travel Demand
Aircraft delivery delays, fuel volatility and airspace restrictions threaten airline profitability.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has warned that airline operating costs are rising sharply despite sustained global passenger demand. The industry body cited aircraft delivery delays, geopolitical airspace restrictions, and fuel price volatility as major contributors to cost pressure.
According to IATA, airlines are increasingly forced to operate older aircraft longer than planned, leading to higher maintenance costs and lower fuel efficiency. Delayed deliveries from manufacturers are also constraining network expansion and capacity planning.
IATA emphasized the need for coordinated action from manufacturers, regulators, and air navigation authorities to ensure long-term operational sustainability and protect consumer affordability.
